Diarrhea, an epidemic

Diarrhea has become an epidemic in Nepal. Many parts of the country has been suffering from this disease from the very beginning. Last year, Jhajharkot was effected while this year Nepalgunj and Dang are the victims. The number of death and patients are increasing day by day. It has been more than three weeks but the number of victims are increasing rather than decreasing. Even Butwal has been affected.

In the time when people are dying of fatal and dangerous diseases, in Nepalese are dying of minor diseases like diarrhea and cholera. The lack of doctors and health workers in these remote places is one of the reason for increase in the disease. Lack of proper medication results such diseases which in turns becomes epidemic.

It is very important to insure and increase the health status of the people. They could contribute to nation if they are healthy and well. So for the development of the country, its important to develop the health status of the citizens.

Delayed!!

The election of Prime Minister has been delayed yet again. Its the third time that the election has been delayed. Dont know whats going on in this country. Why cant those people in power chose even a Prime Minister? Can't they ever agree in a single thing, even if its for the country's good?? If they can't do that, they have no right to be in that position. All of them should retire and stay home watching the news instead.

Football Mania

This month, football is in the air. Everyone, everywhere is talking about football. Be it Portugal's victory over North Korea with 7 -0, or Argentina's undefeated win in the first round, football is all that everyone is talking about. It's a great way of distraction from the boring daily routine.

It has, however, disturbed people as well. Watching football has became an obsession for many. People stay whole night to watch the game, even at the midnight. The World cup fever could be found everywhere, especially on facebook. Many users have changed their profile pictures relating it to world cup. It's good thing to support others but this, too, creates a conflict. A conflict between the supporters of two nations that are playing, not a major but still one.

Let's just wish someday our country, Nepal, will also reach in World cup and we could be able to support our own country rather than others.

Time Up!!

The time for drafting the new Constitution is ending in two days and now the hope for new Constitution, too, is coming to an end. With the arrival of Jestha 14, the wait ends. But it could be added for a year or half, again. Though the given time for the work is coming to and end, the work is still not completed. Time had been added twice and they are asking for the third time. What the hell are they doing? Arent they serious about the outcome of this carelessness? What's going to happen after 14th ? All we can do is just wait and watch!!

Maldives cabinet makes a splash

Maldives, OCT. 17 , 2009

The government of the Maldives has held a cabinet meeting underwater to highlight the threat of global warming to the low-lying Indian Ocean nation.

President Mohamed Nasheed and his cabinet signed a document calling for global cuts in carbon emissions. Ministers spent half an hour on the sea bed, communicating with white boards and hand signals where the president said the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen this December cannot be allowed to fail.

At a later press conference while still in the water, President Nasheed was asked what would happen if the summit fails. "We are going to die," he replied. “ If the Maldives cannot be saved today we do not feel that there is much of a chance for the rest of the world ” he added.

The Maldives stand an average of 2.1 metres (7ft) above sea level, and the government says they face being wiped out if oceans rise. "We're now actually trying to send our message, let the world know what is happening, and what will happen to the Maldives if climate change is not checked," President Nasheed said. "If the Maldives cannot be saved today we do not feel that there is much of a chance for the rest of the world," he further added.
Three of the 14 cabinet ministers missed the underwater meeting, about 20 minutes by boat from the capital, Male, because two were not given medical permission and another was abroad, officials said.

While underwater, they signed a document ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December, calling on all nations to cut their carbon emissions. World leaders at the summit aim to create a new agreement to replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.

Power of the People!!

The Maoist have to call off the Banda because of the pressure they had to face by the Nepali Janatas. That's the power of the people. We, The People, do not want banda and hadtal but peace and prosperity in the country. We could make everything possible, if we are together.

The Peace Rally on May 7 proved it. Just a day after the rally, Maoists withdrew their Banda. It wasn't just because they thought the people would have to suffer but it was the pressure they put on the Maoists. It was because they thought they would lose their respect and position. That's the power of the people, "we can make and break the government."

History Repeats Itself

Once again, there is a strike nationwide, for unlimited period. Maoists have warned to go on strike and may be start the new Jana Andolan. The history would be repeating itself. It would not only disturb the peace process but also result in loss of many lives and property.Their threats are creating terror in the citizens. It not only hampers their professional life but also personal.

The most harmed victim of this stike would be the students awaiting their Board exams for grade 12/11. If the exams are posponed then it will affect the new sessions. The results will be late and the students who would be trying for abroad studies will be late for their classes. It totally disturbs the educational system even in the country itself. This is entirely unfare to the students.

Why can't these people be calm and come together to develop the nation and keep aside their selfishness? Why can't they think about the progress of the country and the people and not the power that the Chair for Head of the Nation carries?

Celebrating Load Shedding!!

Few weeks back the world celebrated Eath Hour. It was, I think to raise awareness on increasing energy crisis. The entire world had power cut for a whole hour, we weren't any exception.

Infact, we Nepalese do it everyday. Not just for an hour but for whole 12 hour everyday. Just imagine how much energy do we save. If Earth Hour was marked with everyone's wish, we face power outage out of helplessness. It was during SLC exams that we got to see bulbs glowing but now its all the same dark everywhere. Inverters, emergency lights, candles are not as satisfying as the real electric bulbs. We can't do our work because most of the time we need electricity for it.

Our leaders should be awarded for saving so much energy, a newspaper had satire published regarding this and I totally agree with it. Hats off to our leaders.

We have a reason to celebrate so lets celebrate. New Year is coming so lets get prepared to celebrate it with candle lit dinner with our family. Lets enjoy the quality time with our family and celebrate load shedding.

Garbage Tale

Everywhere I go, nowadays, I see heaps of garbage on the way. The Municipality and the people of landfill site are again having disagreement over something. It always happens. They disagree over something and we have to suffer. The air, land, water, everything is polluted by the garbage thrown in improper way.

I wonder why people don't understand that it is effecting us, them. Why to throw garbage on the way and pollute already endangered environment? Why don't they understand that they are harming themselves. The smell from the waste products pollutes the air we breathe, it makes us hard to walk that way. Even the holy river is in its worst condition.

People who have space and time can use the degradable waste for making compost manure. I think everyone should stop throwing waste products in places other than dustbins. I saw there was two dusbins side by side in Patan Durbar Square, one for degradable waste and another for non-degradable, but people did not care about it and threw the waste wherever they liked. I wonder why they don't do their duty and don't utilise the facility they get and keep complaining about the management?

As far as I am concerned, I opine that people should do their duty properly and help to keep the city and environment clean.

Why close down the HOSPITALS?

I read the Teaching Hospital was closed down by the agitating students and doctors. I wonder why they close down institutions like hospitals? I don't know the exact figure but I know that the ratio between the doctors and the patient is very uneven. Anyone can say that from the long queue in front of every doctor's clinic and hospitals.

More than 100 patients who come to Teaching for treatment are in deliema because of this. Isn't it against the ethics of the doctors to let the patient suffer while they protest? The people who already are in problem suffer even more because of this. Even the emergency service was closed down for a while. I think its not the solution but the cause of problem in itself. This problem could have been solved by talks and is solved as well then why to protest? Why let other suffer? Why in the world do people ever close down THE HOSPITAL???

SLC and Loadshedding

What's going on here??

Load shedding has decreased nowadays. Early in the morning when I wake up, I find electricity and its the same in the evening. Has the water level in Kulekhani increased for SLC? If yes, then thats a great news. Even the nature supports the SLC appearing students, isnt that just great? If not then how come they could provide additional amount of power to all. They say the Hydropower project does not have that capacity and now they are using it. Will they cut power for more than 12hours to compensate the present usuage?

I think our students are habituated to this situation and even if they dont get the electricity for 10/15 days, it wont be a big problem. Not only them, the whole Nepal has become habituated. Why just give this facitity to SLC students, why not to others as well? Final exams for grade 11/12 are coming as well and I think they should also get this facility.

I read in news that a businessman committed suicide because he was unable to pay back loan he had taken. It was because of load shedding, he couldnt manufacture enough goods which lead to bankrupcy. I dont want to think what his family has to go through. First, the grief of losing him and second the bankrupcy. I can only sympathize with them.

I think the government should take serious actions againsts these kinds of problems created by load shedding and try to find a solution as soon as possible.

The Legend Dies

The death of Girija Prased Koirala was a real shock. He was and will always be the legend of Nepali Politics. The great guy with such a great personality, he was terrific.

I might be the one to criticise him while he was alive but I went to pay my last homage to him. His dertermination and the leadership quality was the reason for who he is today. I never knew him personally, so I can picturize him as a politician only, and I think he will like it more. I know the Girija Prasad Koirala as a tall figure with long-pointed nose and long finger. With that finger he controlled everyone and everything around him. He was the Peace Maker, Social Reformer and the backbone of Nepali politics. There's a lot to say about him if I go on, which will not be a new thing to know. We all know him better and now I think we will be reading about him in history books as well, like his brother BP koirala.

I just wish his last dream of making the new Constitution within the deadline come true and there be peace and cooperation in the nation and also among the political parties.

May his soul rest in peace in heaven.

Building Tunnel

I just read in a newspaper that a tunnel will soon be constructed from Tilganga to Guheswori. I think its a great idea. It will help reduce traffic and problems created by it. I wish it doesn't turn out to be talks only like ways and this time it really works out. Lets wish we get what we are promised and do not get dissapointed at the end.

Facts about Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a major problem in the world. About 700,000 to 2 million people, mainly women and children are being trafficked every year. It is the third highly profitable illegal trade.

About 10 million trafficked people are surviving and working at risk. Human trafficking gives the annual profit of $5billion to $7billion, after drug smuggling and gunrunning. It is the highest growing form of forced labor.

Despite many International Conventions and Optional Protocols against trafficking for slave trade, millions of children are still being trapped by this heinous crime for forced labor, domestic servitude, forced beggary, illegal adoption, forced marriage, criminal activities and to become soldiers, camel jockeys and for other labour exploitations.

In Nepal, every year 12000 women and children are trafficked for sex trade into India for prostitution, according to the data of ILO. Twenty percent of the Nepali women trafficked to India for sex trade is the girls below 16 years of age.

Except for sex trade, thousand of Nepali is trafficked into India to work in carpet factories in Bhadio (Mirjapur), circus (e.g. Firojabad), potato farms, road constructions in Shimla, forced beggary (e.g. Banaras), domestic child labour in Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai and to the Middle East.

Demystifying the belief that only girls from specific geographical areas and community are being trafficked, this crime has expanded to every area and community including boys and men.

Of guns and roses

The Maoists had an objection for the government's decision to bring weapons in the country. According to them, the government are breaching the peace agreement and trying to pick a fight (this is what i read on the papers). But why don't they understand that a country always needs the supply of weapons for the police force. Whatever be the situation of the country, even if the country is peaceful, there is no harm in being prepared for the future. Prevention is better than cure. Buying the weapons doesn't necessarily mean trying to pick a fight, it might just be for safety measures. I just want to tell the Maoists, STOP being SUSPICIOUS over anything and EVERYTHING!!!!

Banda!!Banda!!Banda!!

Why do this Banda happens in this country? Everytime when I have to do something important, there's always Banda. I am just fed up with it. And I think most of the people in this country are, too. What's happening to this country? Instead of being better, New Nepal is degrading day by day. Is Banda one and only solution to all the problems? There are various other ways to solve problems, talks and discussions are the best but every time we have a problem, we ed up doing Banda and protest. I wonder if this continues, Nepal (especially KTM) will soon be known as the land of Banda and protest rather than the land of God and Goddess. Nepal is a "zone of PEACE, don't make it zone of VIOLENCE and CRIME".

YOU MIGHT BE THE NEXT!!

Whenever we come out of the house, we fear if something bad would happen with us. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt. We know if something happened to us or the people we know or in the place we come across. There are many road accidents happening everyday but we never know about some of them. I recently had an accident and only few people know about it. It wasn't major, though. An accident is an accident. I heard a person was killed in Chabahil by Swayambhu Yatayat. Its not a new thing because the same bus kills several people manytimes. Its always a news and the area is always disturbed. However, this time the person wasnt killed at once so the bus backed off and killed him, according to what i heard. This make me think if our life is so cheap that you just kill and pay some thousand bucks as compensation and you are free.
there is always a big threat to our life when we get out of our house. So just be CAREFUL while going out because YOU MIGHT BE THE NEXT!!

Carelessness

I wonder how careless people could be. Just a walk around the corner and a list of careless activities. Nevertheless, piles of garbage tops the list but the misuse of electricity continues. I was just coming out of my house when I saw two street lamps glowing in the daylight. I wanted to switch it off but I couldnt find the switch. Even at the houses the lights on the balconies and verendas are left on. Isn't it our fault? But we cant say its entirely their fault because when there's current in the evening they turn the switch on and forget to turn it off at night when there is outage which results in glowing light at odd hours. Even my next door neighbour do the same. They forget to turn off the lights and even their T.V. sets. This is really disturbing and shameful thing. It shows how careless we are. So, lets just start being conscious and SAVE ENERGY!!

Thanks loadshedding

whatelse could i say and do except elcoming what's on our fate (loadshedding)? we, Nepalese are bound to face hours of loadshedding everyday. it is very hard for people like me who need electicity for work. it also affects my daily routine. early in the morning when i wake up usually there's no current and also in the evening the story is same. almost all my work need electicity but thanks to the hours of outage i cant meet the deadline for completing my work. even the inverter has turned into mere showpiece because it cant be fully charged. thanks to loadshedding. its not only me but everyone else living in this country has same problem. All thanks to loadshedding!!

the start

Ah! I just entered the new world of blogging. Feels good to share my thoughts and feeling to others. It feels good to write a digital diary. The start feels great lets just see what the future has in store for me.
